Breeder Referral

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America recommends all breeders perform the follow health tests on all breeding stock: (http://www.bmdca.org/health/tests.php)

*AKC DNA Profile (to document parentage)

*DNA test for von Willebrand’s Disease TYPE 1 (VetGen or GenSol )

*Hip Dysplasia (OFA or PennHIP evaluation)

*Elbow Dysplasia (OFA)

*Eye examination by a board certified ACVO ophthalmologist (results registered with OFA)

*Congenital cardiac exam (auscultation, OFA evaluation with cardiologist exam)

*Many breeders also test for other health issues such as degenerative myelopathy (DNA test by GenSol)
